Volunteers needed for the
16th Annual Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Érable

L’Association des francophones de Nanaimo is delighted to present the 16th annual Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Érable and is looking for volunteers to help make this event a success once again. The opportunity to volunteer at this fun event is open to the to everyone in the community.

The Festival runs from February 24 to 26. The school program takes place on February 22, 23, and 24. We are looking for individuals to volunteer for the period of between February 21 and 26, 2017. You can volunteer for four-hour increments or for a whole day.

Volunteer Categories

Organizational Volunteers (Dragon Boat Team, Service Clubs, etc.)

We welcome community groups who wish to volunteer to work as a team and take care of one area of responsibility for the Festival. For example, the members of the Angels Abreast team have cleaned tables and trays at the Festival Cantine Chez Ti-Père for many years. We welcome other Community groups to join us and take care of a particular area, such as welcoming on site and the admission on site booth. Four-Hour or One-day Volunteer

This volunteer works for a minimum of four hours during the day or evening volunteering between February 24 and 26, 2017. They could be doing a specific job in one area or helping in various areas depending on the needs of the Festival.

Weekend Volunteer

This volunteer works four hours each day from February 24 to 26, 2017. They may work in different areas each day or do all three shifts in the same area.

Pre- or Post-Festival Volunteer

Working with the Festival Site Manager, this volunteer works to set up, dismantle, and clean the Festival site.

Available Volunteer Tasks

Poster Deliverers
Delivering posters throughout Greater Nanaimo,
as well as Francophone associations on Vancouver Island
(Campbell River, Victoria) and at supermarkets in Campbell River,
the Comox Valley, Parksville/Qualicum, Nanaimo/Ladysmith,
Cowichan, and Victoria

contact the Volunteer Coordinator for details.
Your fuel costs are reimbursed.


Cashiers
Operate cash registers at different points of sale
on the Festival site.

Sunday, February 26 – 8:30 am to 4:30 pm


Set-up and Take-Down Crew
Organize tables and chairs and set up booths on site.

Volunteer Centre
Welcome and direct volunteers to various workstations.
Ensure timesheets and application forms are completed.
Manage lost and found items.

Table Cleaners
Clean tables and trays during the Festival.

Driver
Assist with pickup and delivery of items to the Festival site.
Run errands as required throughout the Festival.
Move food from site to site.
Pick up performing artists as required.
French is an asset.

L'AFN Booth Attendants
Promote and sell specialty products.
Familiarity with products and services
offered by L'AFN is an asset.
French is required.

Clean-Up Crew
Maintain a clean Festival site using the equipment provided.
Clean eating areas constantly during the day
to sanitary standards.
Tidy Festival site at the end of each day.
Empty garbage and recycling areas, keep washroom
facilities clean and well stocked.
French is not required.

Mascot and Mascot Escort
Dress and act as Toffy, our Festival Mascot or escort Toffy
while he participates in various activities during the Festival.

Welcoming Committee
Welcome visitors to the Festival at their arrival and
departure of the Festival grounds. Hand out
brochures with the Festival schedule, answer questions
regarding general information about the Festival.
French is an asset.
English-speaking volunteers will be paired
with one French-speaking volunteer.
